Huy Nguyen

Legal Intern

A child of Marx and Coca-Cola

Huy Q. Nguyen is a contradiction of sorts. He was raised in Orlando, Florida, where his early appreciation for Rauschenberg, K Records, and L'uomo Vogue clashed with all things suburban – namely Florida State Football, Creed, and Abercrombie and Fitch. Still, his peers appreciated such differences, and like David Tenzer, awarded him a couple senior superlatives in high school – including "Most Academic" and "Best Dressed" – the two categories themselves a slight contradiction. In any event, such inconsistent qualities got him admitted to Yale University, where he majored in Sociology, with a concentration in Media Politics, as an undergraduate. Currently, Huy is pursuing a JD/MBA from Loyola Marymount University.

At Revver, Huy is an Intern in the Legal Affairs Department, where he works on various legal matters, ranging from copyright, trademark, and member and licensing agreements. Although he's losing on sleep (he is simultaneously juggling law school, business school, and internship duties), Huy would have it no other way because he's pretty passionate about intellectual property law, and specifically its relation to new media technologies. In fact, he will be taking a couple extended trips to Asia this year to work on a comparative study dealing with intellectual property law in connection with the exploding mobile commerce in Tokyo, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Bangkok.

Because he is a contradiction of sorts, Huy has a penchant for both high and low-brow culture. His tagline, which directly addresses this conflict, is taken from one of his favorite films from one of his favorite directors: Masculine/Feminine by Jean-Luc Godard. That said, such a paradox may explain why Huy owns (and loves) both films from the French and German new wave movement as well as albums by (talented) teen actresses and Hollywood socialites. Indeed, Huy starts off the morning reading the New York Times, browsing fashion mags for the de rigeur accessory of the season, followed by a healthy dose of really trashy gossip.
