HOUSTON - the Coast Guard medevaced a 42-year-old man from an oil tanker approximately 30 miles south of Freeport, Texas, May 8, 2008. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a call at 5 a.m. from the manager of emergency management for the 781-foot SPT- Conqueror. The manager reported a crewmember had been struck in the head while working and was in need of immediate medical attention. The Coast Guard launched a rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Houston to assist. The rescue helicopter crew arrived on scene, and safely landed on the 1115-foot oil tanker Ghawar. The Ghawar was conducting operations with the Conqueror and the two ships were bunkered together. The rescue helicopter crew then transported the injured man to University of Texas Medical branch in Galveston, Texas.
