In 1954, a group called the "National Clean up- Paint up- Fix up Bureau" knew that the war to end all wars was just around the corner. To make sure you survived an atomic blast, they urged everyone to keep their yards tidy, and to paint their homes with reflective white paint, to better reflect away the heat from an atomic blast.
