I'm not saying that J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is bad. It's good. It has a lot of fans, has made a lot of people read, mak I'm not saying that J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is bad. It's good. It has a lot of fans, has made a lot of people read, makes people happy. That's good. What I am saying is that HP does not appeal to me. Where is the violence? The sex? I wrote a book called "A Gang of Daggers," and in it you will read about some kids getting picked on who discover a portal to another world. Now ask yourself, what would you do with such a thing? For me, I wrote kids deciding to take advantage of this, to learn how to fight with the weapons there, to realize they can take what they want and not be pushed around. Teenagers are not concerned with waving magic wangs, they are concerned with Jackass stunts, sports, athletics, video games, substances, sex, agression, thumbing their nose at authority. That's what I write about. For me, it's not "What were you born with," it's about "What do you bring to the table?" If you are weak, get stronger. If you are slow, get faster. Dumb, get smarter. And if you can't do one, then improve the other two. Ultimately, what is it that people are going to notice about you? How you dress? How you look? How you cut your hair? Will they notice your scars? Your muscles? The cold look in your eyes as you stare them down? Really, when the time comes, and you have to pull steel, will you face the challenge, or run away?
