WASHINGTON, DC -- District leaders, organizers, students, and residents rallied and marched for full voting representation in Congress. Currently congress holds DC down without democracy as we don't have any voting voice in Congress, just a delegate who can speak on a bill but not vote on a bill. DC Vote, a non-profit organization who helped host this event, is attempting, with the support of Mayor Fenty, to give Delegate Elanor Holms-Norton a vote and be our lone vote in the House of Representatives. Many contingents at this march demanded more... full Statehood, which would give District residents a vote in the House, 2 Senators, and budget autonomy. Budget autonomy is especially critical as Congress uses it's force of power over DC's annual budget to eliminate social programs or push things like a school-voucher program down District residents' throats.
