America’s coastlines are dotted with fragile ecosystems called estuaries—areas where freshwater rivers meet the ocean. Their peaceful waterways and wild lands nurture rare and endangered species and commercially valuable marine life. The Association of National Estuary Programs works to preserve 28 of these unique environments and to protect them from human encroachment.
