In this day and age, the human brain has to deal with a huge amount of stimuli, and usually all at the same time. It starts from the moment you wake up, sounds and images to which you respond consciously or unconsciously. eddie d has made unrelated video segments based on these incidental everyday perceptions: the rattling lid of a pan, or a foot stamping, a talking head on the television. With these unconnected fragments he creates compositions. He turns them into a rhythmical and graphic sequence, making use of the compositional principles of music, poetry or choreography. And just as with these disciplines, the meaning is generated by the experience of the whole, but this experience remains mostly indefinable. Repetitions, duplications, framing, shifts and crescendos generally suggest means by which the influx of trivia can be reforged into a significant experience. (Jaap Vinken/Martine van Kampen)
