Birds Flying Strange Formations

Hundreds of birds (starlings, I think) were flying in strange and wonderful formations over a parking lot in California. They looked like some twisting, swirling, living organism in the sky. They seemed to disappear and reappear at will. I watched them for at least 20 minutes before they dispersed. I don't know how long they'd been flying this way before I arrived. I'm only sorry I had so little camera memory available to record it.
