About Me:
Description:
Consider if you will a female Chris Rock. Topical, edgy, and charismatic, Mélia Mills is ready to take over stage, screen and a comedy club near you. Born in the Bay Area, Mélia spent her childhood soaking up the vitality of neighborhoods in Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco. Mélia credits Whoopi Goldberg, Anna Deavere Smith, Lucille Ball, Chris Rock, John Ritter, Adam Sandler, Dave Chappelle and Tom Hanks (Skyline High School alum) as her comedic inspiration. Still it was her grandmother who allowed her to discover her gift. Following her college days, Mélia moved in with her grandmother to help her out. She found comedy gold in the outrageous observations Grammy made about life. She made a decision to commit some of these comedic moments to paper and soon discovered that simple, everyday life experiences are what best connects the performer with her audience. Her shows feature political and pop culture satire. Mélia includes great act-outs based on her hilarious, yet naïve grandmother and flips a Norah Jones song to illustrate a relationship between a woman and the rapper boyfriend she thought was straight. At The Improv, just prior to a routine by none other than Jerry Seinfeld, Mélia took the stage before a packed house and gave her raw uncensored performance. The crowd went wild. As soon as she walked off the stage Cuba Gooding, Jr. approached her and exclaimed, You are hilarious! I am going to set up a meeting with my management for you. Mélia's comedic star has been rising ever since. More recently, she was approached by Jamie Foxx's manager who told her he'd watched her reel about a hundred times and invited her to Atlanta to perform at Comedy Central's, Laffapalooza. Mélia performs at The Improv, The Comedy Store, Stand-Up New York, The Icehouse, etc. She will appear in the upcoming film,Black August, based on the life of political prisoner George Jackson. A team of writers are currently penning a sitcom based on her life experiences. .. .. ..
